Teams

Teams

Rename the general channel

Team owners and approved members can now rename the ‘General’ channel to a more relevant title. This helps members easily find important information. When creating a new team, the owner must name the first channel, and the updated name will show up in alphabetical order in the teams and channels list, keeping the channel list organized.

Updated teams and channels onboarding flow

The updated teams and channels onboarding flow allows team owners to recommend specific channels to new members. Now when you join a new team, you can see which channels are recommended, and select only the channels that matter most, so you can easily organize your list of channels, prioritize those you care about, and filter through the noise.

‘Shared’ tab in chat

Sharing files and links is important for collaboration, but finding them later can be difficult. To make this easier, we’re introducing the ‘Shared’ tab in 1:1 and group chats, which replaces the ‘Files’ tab. This new tab gathers all shared files and links in one place, making them easier to find. Additionally, you can use the ‘filter by keyword’ option to quickly locate specific content. This update improves file management and productivity, and no action is needed to receive it; Channels remain unchanged.

Image handling enhancements in Teams

New updates to the Teams desktop and web apps make sharing images in chat and channels simpler and more user-friendly. When you paste an image in the message box, it shows up next to other images on the same line, taking less space. You can use the arrow keys to move between images, remove one by clicking the “X” button that appears when you hover over it, and add alternative text or copy the image with the right-click menu. After sharing, Teams automatically adjusts the image size and aspect ratio for an optimal display without blocking any content.

Copilot in Teams meetings can now source responses from meeting chat

In meetings today, there are two key conversations: the spoken words and the chat messages. Copilot in Teams can review both the meeting transcript and the chat to give you a complete understanding of the discussion. For example, you can ask Copilot if you missed any questions, and it will quickly check both the transcript and the chat to find any unanswered queries. With Copilot in Teams, no question, idea, or contribution is overlooked. This feature is available this month for both desktop and mobile.

Expanded controls to manage Copilot’s availability in Teams meetings

We are introducing new controls for managing Copilot availability in Teams meetings. IT admins and meeting organizers can now set Copilot to ‘Off.’ Admins will find this option in the Teams Admin Center, allowing them to turn off Copilot for specific tenants, users, or both. Meeting organizers can use the “Allow Copilot” control in meeting options, with three choices: (1) Only during the meeting, (2) During and after the meeting, and (3) Off. The new ‘Off’ option will turn off Copilot, Recording, and Transcription in Teams meetings.

Meeting recap and artifacts automatically shared in Microsoft Outlook after meeting

After a meeting, you can view a summary by opening the event in your Microsoft Outlook calendar. The summary includes a recap page link, transcript, recording, notes, shared files, whiteboard, and meeting details. If you have the intelligent meeting recap, you’ll also see highlights like the number of speakers, how often you were mentioned, and AI-generated tasks. This feature is available with a Teams Premium license or Copilot for Microsoft 365 license.

Interpreters can indicate which language they’re translating

Now, interpreters in Teams can easily show which language they are translating by clicking a button. They can choose one of two options at the bottom of the screen to indicate the language they will interpret. To switch to the other language, they just toggle the option. This allows for efficient real-time translation with only one interpreter, removing the need for a second interpreter or extra devices.
