SharePoint

UX Updates, AI Actions & Forms in Document Libraries

The latest SharePoint document library updates feature a more intuitive user experience, AI-powered actions for Copilot Premium users, and new forms functionality for improved document collection and metadata control, enhancing navigation, customization, and collaboration while decreasing manual file management efforts.

SharePoint FAQ web part

The latest SharePoint FAQ web part update introduces AI-powered features to keep content fresh and accurate. Authors with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can now receive on-demand AI-suggested updates, seamlessly import existing FAQs, ground answers in SharePoint pages for reliability, and share direct links to specific Q&A pairs. These enhancements aim to simplify FAQ management, improve engagement, and ensure timely updates. Public preview rollout begins late November 2025 and completes early January 2026.

Creating SharePoint Pages with Copilot

You can create and publish SharePoint pages through Microsoft 365 Copilot by using natural language commands after installing the SharePoint Page agent. This feature allows users to draft, refine, and instantly publish content to selected sites from various applications like Teams, Word, or Copilot Chat. Future updates will enhance the experience with Copilot-generated images, improved layouts, and smoother transition between different workflows.

Update to News web part “See all” experience

The SharePoint News web part “See All” experience will be updated with a modern mosaic layout and AI-powered features requiring a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Rollout starts November 2025, with no admin action needed. Core interactions remain unchanged, enhancing news engagement and visual design.

Document Libraries – A new forms experience for streamlined document collection

Microsoft is rolling out a new method for collecting files and metadata in SharePoint document libraries through modern file upload forms, allowing library owners to create and share custom forms. This update simplifies file collection during onboarding and campaign submissions while maintaining existing sharing settings and requiring no admin action, enhancing security for organizations.

Streamline SharePoint publishing with new SharePoint page agent

Microsoft are introducing the SharePoint page agent, a declarative Copilot agent that enables users to create and refine SharePoint pages directly within Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences using natural language prompts. This feature allows users to generate structured content—such as meeting recaps, announcements, and project updates—without switching apps, and will be available in public preview from mid-November 2025, with general availability expected by mid-March 2026. The agent requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, can be managed by admins, and introduces new AI-powered workflows for SharePoint page creation within Teams, Outlook, and Word.

SharePoint branding governance via PowerShell

Tenant admins will soon manage SharePoint site branding centrally via PowerShell, enabling enforcement of enterprise themes, disabling custom branding per site, auditing changes, and applying themes during site creation. Theme management will centralize in the primary geo, with rollout from late 2025 to early 2026.

Microsoft dark themes for SharePoint sites

Two new Microsoft-designed dark themes (Dark Teal, Dark Blue) will be available for SharePoint sites starting mid-December 2025. They enhance visual experience, support accessibility, and can be applied via site settings without affecting existing themes or functionality.

Modern Access Request and Access Denied web page

Microsoft is updating the Access Request and Access Denied pages in Microsoft 365 with modern designs and clearer messaging to facilitate users in requesting access to restricted content. This automatic rollout will occur from January to February 2026, requiring organizations to inform support staff and update documentation to ensure a smooth transition.

App-only certificate-based authentication now available in SharePoint Online Management Shell

SharePoint Online Management Shell now supports app-only certificate-based authentication for secure, unattended automation with MFA. Administrators can register apps in Microsoft Entra ID, assign API permissions, and use certificates to run scripts without user credentials, enhancing security and compliance.

Update to custom scripting governance in App Catalog site

Starting mid-January 2026, custom scripting will be disabled by default on the tenant-wide SharePoint App Catalog site to enhance security. App operations remain unaffected, but new custom script changes will be blocked. Admins can temporarily opt out using PowerShell commands and should inform site owners accordingly.

Legacy SharePoint Online Content Delivery Network (CDN) domain to be retired

The legacy SharePoint Online CDN domain publiccdn.sharepointonline.com will be retired by late April 2026. Update all hardcoded references to the new domain public-cdn.sharepointonline.com to avoid 404 errors. Validate changes before March 31, 2026, to ensure uninterrupted access to SharePoint resources.

SharePoint Online Content Security Policy (CSP): Enforcement Dates and Guidance

The page outlines that SharePoint Online will implement Content Security Policy (CSP) starting March 1, 2026, transitioning from “report-only” mode. Non-compliant scripts will be blocked post-enforcement, and developers need to audit SPFx solutions and refactor inline scripts. CSP will affect common script-loading patterns, particularly inline scripts, with violations logged in Microsoft Purview for compliance tracking. Guidance is available for updating trusted sources ahead of enforcement.

Retirement Date for Office Online Server (OOS) Announced

Microsoft has announced the retirement of Office Online Server (OOS), effective December 31, 2026 – Announcing the retirement for Office Online Server.  Office Online Server (formerly known as Office Web Apps Server) is a product that can be optionally integrated with SharePoint Server on-premises. It enables users to work with supported document types in various scenarios without first having to download them.

Teams

Configure Local Network Access Policy for Microsoft eCDN

Admins must configure the LocalNetworkAccessAllowedForUrls policy in Chrome-based browsers to allow specific Microsoft eCDN URLs, ensuring optimal Teams Live Events performance amid new Local Network Access restrictions starting with Chrome 142. Apply settings via Group Policy or registry keys; see documentation for details.

Microsoft Teams on the web: New Private Preview for Sign in with Apple and Google for consumers may affect enterprise

Microsoft Teams on the web plans a new sign-in preview with “Continue with Apple” and “Continue with Google” for consumer accounts via login.microsoftonline.com/common. Enterprise users with custom URLs won’t be affected. The rollout is on hold, and no action is needed currently.

Shared call history in Queues app

Microsoft Teams Queues app will introduce shared call history for queue members to view all call events. Rolling out January–February 2026, the feature is disabled by default and requires Teams Premium license and admin enablement. Tenant migration of call history is not supported initially.

Viva Engage in Microsoft Teams mobile: New conversation search capability available

Viva Engage in Microsoft Teams mobile will gain a new conversation search feature, rolling out from mid-November 2025 to early January 2026. This default-enabled update improves content discoverability on mobile, requires no admin action, and affects users accessing Viva Engage via Teams mobile only.

Enhancements to Interpreter and multilingual meeting experience

Microsoft Teams is enhancing its multilingual meeting experience by adding automatic spoken language detection, a “Preparing” status indicator for the Interpreter, and simplified settings with clear explanations. These updates, available to Microsoft 365 Copilot users, will roll out from December 2025 with no admin action required.

Native MacOS screen and window sharing in Teams meetings

Microsoft Teams will introduce an opt-in native macOS screen and window sharing feature using Apple’s APIs, starting targeted release in early December 2025 and general availability by mid-January 2026. It is disabled by default, requires no app restart, and improves performance for Mac users in Teams meetings.

Protection against tenant-owned domain impersonation in Teams chat

Microsoft Teams will soon detect and warn users of tenant-owned domain impersonation in external chats, displaying high-risk alerts when suspicious. This feature, enabled by default for organizations allowing external access, launches December 2025 across all platforms with no admin controls or required actions.

New customer onboarding for Google and Microsoft Teams calendar sync paused

Microsoft has paused new customer onboarding for calendar sync between Google Workspace and Microsoft Teams effective immediately. Existing setups continue to work, but new sync configurations cannot be initiated by organizations inactive in setup for 30 days. No action is currently required.

Upcoming improvements to the jump list experience on Windows

Microsoft Teams on Windows will update the jump list by mid-November 2025, adding quick actions like scheduling meetings and starting chats, showing meetings, and removing the “Quit” option from the jump list. No user action is needed; updates roll out automatically.

Maintain accurate presence in Teams on the Web with new activity detection setting

Microsoft Teams on the web will introduce a new user-enabled setting to detect device activity beyond the Teams tab, improving presence accuracy. Rolling out December 2025 for Chrome v94+ and Edge v114+. No admin action needed; users must grant browser permission to enable it.

Join by code requires owner approval for private teams

Starting late 2025, Microsoft Teams will require owner approval for users joining private teams via join codes, aligning with join-by-link behavior. Public teams remain unaffected. Team owners should monitor requests and update documentation; no admin action is needed. This enhances governance and reduces unintended access.

New Microsoft Teams Store (preview)

Microsoft Teams Store is being redesigned for a more intuitive app and agent discovery experience, rolling out worldwide from late October 2025 to January 2026. Changes include a modern interface, new agent filter, streamlined app tiles, centered search, simplified categories, and a unified app management hub. No user or admin action is needed.
