In this post we look at some of the most useful end-user features within Teams Premium based on hands-on experience.

Teams Premium is an add-on product that enhances the standard Teams experience, focusing on making meetings more intelligent, personalised, and secure. Teams Premium offers advanced features designed to improve productivity and overall user experience, such as:

  • AI powered insights: AI notes and a powerful recap feature, plus personalised insights and recommendations to optimise your workflow.
  • Advanced meeting capabilities: Meeting templates, custom branding, and enhanced security options.
  • Enhanced collaboration tools: Advanced tools for webinars, virtual events, and more.

Feature #1 – Recap

Recap is one of the main features of Teams Premium that allows you to generate automatic meeting summaries, including key discussion points, action items, and highlights. This helps you catch up quickly, even if you missed part of the meeting. To use the Recap feature:

  1. Start or join a meeting in Teams.
  2. Press the More … button > record or transcribe > start transcription.
Use start transcription to make use of the recap feature in Teams Premium.

💡Transcription starts automatically when you record meetings, which will also generate a summary.

Feature #2 – AI summary

Once a meeting has finished, an AI-generated summary and follow-up tasks from your meeting by selecting AI summary. An AI summary is available for meetings that have been transcribed. The meeting must also be five minutes or longer in duration.

The AI summary feature uses the meeting transcription to summarise what was discussed.

To access an AI summary:

  • Double-click on your meeting.
  • A meeting summary should be presented following the meetings completion > press view recap.
Find the AI summary by pressing “view recap” within a event in Teams.
  • You can also access the AI summary by pressing the chat button from your meeting > recap.

Feature #3 – Timeline markers

Timeline markers are displayed along the timeline of a meeting recording, indicating the segments that hold the most significance for you. You may view the timeline markers by hovering your cursor over the meeting recording. By selecting a marker, you can directly navigate to that specific portion of the recording. Additional markers featured in the recap include:

  • Name mention markers: If your name has been mentioned, you will observe the @ icon. By selecting the @ icon, you can directly navigate to that specific section of the recording. Additionally, you may access a transcription detailing the content of the discussion and the individual who contributed by opening the transcript pane. Please note that only you have visibility of your personal name mention markers.
  • Join and Leave Markers: During the playback of a meeting recording, one may hover over the timeline to identify the exact moments of joining or departing. By selecting a marker, the user can navigate to the corresponding section of the recording. Please note that these markers are visible exclusively to the individual user.
  • Screen Share Markers: Screen share markers indicate instances when an individual has shared their screen during a meeting. By hovering over the meeting recording timeline, one may observe these markers. Selecting a marker will direct the viewer to the corresponding segment of the recording.

Feature #4 – Topics and chapters

Chapters and topics systematically partition a meeting into distinct sections by utilizing pertinent keywords derived from the meeting transcript, content presented through PowerPoint Live, and additional resources. Chapter markers are prominently displayed below the video frame, with the option to exhibit the contents panel concurrently. Users possessing the requisite editing permissions may review and modify chapter titles and start times, and they have the option to entirely remove or substitute all chapters if deemed necessary. Additionally, chapters can be deactivated through the video settings. Feedback regarding the video chapters can be submitted via a voting feature located near the base of the Chapters panel, allowing users to access a feedback form, select relevant reasons, and provide further insights.
