
The Microsoft 365 monthly update includes updates and recently released features across Microsoft 365. The free version includes updates to SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive, whilst subscribers get all of the updates, plus Power Platform, Copilot and more.

SharePoint
General availability of SharePoint tenant rename with no scale limitations
SharePoint Online Tenant Rename is now generally available without site count limits as of October 16, 2025, allowing domain name changes for all tenants. This feature supports business continuity and Microsoft 365 integrations but requires SAM licenses for tenants with over 10,000 sites. It is particularly useful for organizations needing to update their SharePoint domain names due to rebranding or restructuring.

Optimised Version History for SharePoint lists and libraries
Microsoft have announced improvements to version history for SharePoint Lists and Document Libraries generated with grid view editing. This change improves reliability, reduces storage, and streamlines the user experience by consolidating multiple edits into one where possible. Capacity pack support for SharePoint agent and Copilot tuning
Microsoft has announced that starting in late October 2025, global admins can manage costs for SharePoint Agents and Copilot Tuning in Microsoft 365 by allocating prepaid Capacity Packs—each providing 25,000 Copilot messages per month—to Copilot Chat environments via the Power Platform Admin Center. This update enables usage monitoring, automated provisioning, and admin control through Entra ID, with no prior action required before rollout.

Manage SharePoint agents in Copilot Control System
Microsoft has announced a new capability for Microsoft 365 administrators to manage SharePoint agents directly within Copilot Chat. Starting in late September 2025, a dedicated Agents section will appear in the Copilot Control System of the Microsoft 365 admin center, providing admins with a centralized view to monitor, block, or unblock SharePoint agents used in Copilot Chat. This feature is enabled by default and does not require any opt-in, affecting only Copilot Chat—not OneDrive, SharePoint, or Teams.

Metadata Understanding for Microsoft 365 Copilot
In September, Microsoft enabled agents like Knowledge Agent to understand and use SharePoint metadata for delivering more precise, context-aware answers. This includes automated metadata population and other capabilities to keep content AI-ready. Starting in November, Microsoft 365 Copilot will also gain this metadata reasoning ability, allowing it to interpret tags, categories, and business context—not just document text.

Teams
Summarize files shared in Teams chat with Copilot
Microsoft 365 Copilot can summarize Microsoft Word file content shared in Teams chats, allowing users to grasp key ideas quickly without opening the file. This mobile-friendly feature adheres to file security policies, ensuring summaries are only provided to authorized users and carry the same sensitivity label as the original file.

Add emoji updated keyboard shortcut
Use colons to quickly insert the emoji you want without slowing down to use the mouse. Type : followed by the name of the emoji you want, then type : again. Once done, the emoji is selected and added to your text. The new shortcut aligns with industry standards and helps make emoji insertion intuitive and consistent. You can now type keywords to find both standard and custom emojis using the improved search.

Audio recap now generally available
Microsoft has announced the launch of audio recap, a new feature that transforms meeting summaries into audio experiences for users on the go. With audio recap, employees can listen to concise meeting recaps in various styles—Newscast, Executive, or Casual—making it easier to stay informed while commuting or multitasking. The feature supports up to eight meetings at a time and is accessible from the meeting recap page on both desktop and mobile, providing a hands-free way to catch up wherever work takes you.

Intelligent recap popout window in Calls app
Users can access Intelligent recap pop-out pages in the Calls app, which uses AI to summarize recorded or transcribed calls. To view a recap, simply go to the call history, select the desired call, and click “View recap” to see AI-generated summaries and recommended tasks.

Facilitator agent for scheduled meetings in Teams Rooms on Android
You can now take advantage of the Facilitator agent in Teams Rooms on Android for real-time AI-generated notes, follow up items, and keeping everyone updated on time during scheduled meetings. Facilitator appears in the meeting chat, and participants can toggle between notes, chat, and the agent. Available in rooms licensed for Teams Rooms Pro.

GCC/ DoD
- Event Chat now available in Town halls for GCC, GCCH and DoD [Premium] – Teams is bringing richer engagement to your Town halls on more cloud environments. With Event Chat, organizers and attendees in GCC, GCCH, and DoD environments can now interact in real time during Town hall sessions. This feature enables secure, threaded conversations, allowing participants to share insights, ask questions, and stay connected throughout the event. After the session ends, the chat remains accessible for follow-up discussions, ensuring continuity and collaboration beyond the live broadcast.

OneDrive
Simplified file transfer for departing employees in OneDrive
Microsoft has announced enhancements to OneDrive that streamline file management for departing employees, rolling out globally from mid-October 2025. These updates include improved notifications, advanced filtering to quickly locate shared or important files, and a bulk transfer feature that preserves sharing permissions. When an employee leaves, their manager or designated secondary owner automatically receives access to the user’s OneDrive, along with email alerts and reminders about retention periods.

OneDrive: floating Copilot button simplifies Copilot discovery
OneDrive will feature a floating Copilot button, providing users with quick access to AI-powered actions such as summarizing and comparing documents directly within the OneDrive web interface. This new tool, enabled by default for eligible Microsoft 365 users, streamlines navigation and offers contextual recommendations based on selected files, helping organizations work more efficiently.
