- MC1222123 Take Action: Out-of-band update to address cloud‑backed storage application issues – Microsoft has released an urgent out‑of‑band Windows update to fix January 2026 issues causing apps and Outlook to hang when opening or saving files in cloud‑backed storage locations.(24 Jan 2026)
- MC1221927 Microsoft Defender for Android ending support for enrolled personal profiles – Microsoft Defender for Android will end support for protecting personal profiles on enrolled devices by March 2026, focusing solely on securing corporate work profiles. (23 Jan 2026)
- MC1221452 Microsoft Entra ID: Auto-enabling passkey profiles – Starting March 2026, Microsoft Entra ID will auto-enable passkey profiles with a new passkeyType property for device-bound and synced passkeys. Tenants not opting in will be migrated automatically, with existing settings preserved. Microsoft-managed registration campaigns will update targeting to passkeys. (23 Jan 2026)
- MC1221451 New policy to add watermarks to content generated or altered by using AI in Microsoft 365 – Microsoft 365 will offer a policy to add visual or audio watermarks to AI-generated or altered video and audio content, available via Cloud Policy by February 2026. This enhances transparency but does not apply to images, which users can watermark through privacy settings separately. (23 Jan 2026)
- MC1219791 Microsoft Purview | DLP – Additional diagnostics for Data Loss Prevention and Information Protection – Microsoft Purview is introducing new diagnostics for Data Loss Prevention and Information Protection, providing admins deeper insights into triggered policies for files and emails. Rolling out from January to May 2026, these tools require no action, cause no workflow impact, and are enabled by default. (21 Jan 2026)

This feature eliminates the hassle of navigating menus on your mobile phone, giving you instant access to your personal AI assistant for quick conversational voice answers. - Microsoft Purview: Insider Risk Management – Risky AI usage – With this update, Insider Risk Management will help admins identify risky AI usage. We are adding new detections of intentional and unintentional insider risk activity on generative AI apps that can pose a risk to an organization. Activities will include risky prompts containing sensitive info or risky intent and sensitive responses containing sensitive info or is generated from sensitive files or sites. Coverage will span across Microsoft Copilots and 3P generative AI apps. These detections will also contribute to Adaptive Protection insider risk levels. Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. With this update, admins will have the option to turn on AI powered skill inferencing for Microsoft 365 E3 / E5 licensed users directly in the Microsoft 365 admin center. AI powered skill inferencing uses AI to automatically identify and update skills on users’ Microsoft 365 profiles based on their work activity from the Microsoft Graph. - Microsoft Purview: Insider Risk Management – Data Security Investigation integration – Launch a pre-scoped Data Security Investigation (DSI) from an IRM case. When a data security admin identifies a risky user who needs deeper investigation, they can launch a pre-scoped investigation directly from an IRM case, allowing them to view content analysis related to that user and better assess post-incident data impact. - Microsoft Purview: Data Lifecycle Management-New cmdlet to remove retention from inactive mailboxes – Today, there is not a way to remove retention policies or labels (called a hold in Exchange) from items in inactive mailboxes in bulk. In addition to existing text upload controls in Purview collection and DLP policies, Admins can now detect and enforce inline protections on file uploads. Policies can target file-specific conditions such as file size, file type, and sensitive information types, enabling organizations to audit or block activities for users in Edge on Intune-managed Windows devices. - Microsoft Purview: Insider Risk Management – Risky AI usage – With this update, Insider Risk Management will help admins identify risky AI usage. We are adding new detections of intentional and unintentional insider risk activity on generative AI apps that can pose a risk to an organization. Activities will include risky prompts containing sensitive info or risky intent and sensitive responses containing sensitive info or is generated from sensitive files or sites. Coverage will span across Microsoft Copilots and 3P generative AI apps. These detections will also contribute to Adaptive Protection insider risk levels. - Microsoft Purview: Data Loss Prevention- Adaptive Scopes for DLP for SharePoint – Adaptive Scope for SharePoint is a dynamic scoping capability in Microsoft Purview DLP that allows administrators to automatically target DLP policies to the right sites based on attributes such as site URL, site name, or custom site metadata. Unlike static scoping, which requires manually listing sites and maintaining them over time, adaptive scopes continuously evaluate site properties and auto‑include or exclude locations as they evolve. This enables scalable policy deployment, eliminates the 100‑site static policy limit, and delivers granular, and automated targeting.
